Champions of Caring Connections 6th Annual Golf Tournament Charity Event Swinging For Families

Los Angeles, California-- Champions of Caring Connections will host their sixth annual charity golf tournament, "Swinging for Families", on Monday, August 21st to benefit homeless families and foster/unaccompanied youth. This event will be held at the Rio Hondo Golf Course located in Downey, California. It will include an 18 hole scramble, an awards dinner and an opportunity raffle.

The popular Swinging for Families event is part of an on-going campaign to provide much needed services to families and youth in need in Service Planning Area 6: South (SPA 6) of South Los Angeles. SPA 6 has the highest homeless rate of all service areas, with a 23% increase in the past year.

Champions of Caring Connections is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization founded by Bettye Randle, retired/former Director of Health, Human, Homeless Education and Foster Youth Services for Compton Unified School District. It provides, “First Responder” social services and immediate resources. Over the past 12 years, the organization has assisted homeless women and their children, low income families, foster and unaccompanied youth by providing emergency food certificates, uniforms for school-aged children and emergency shelter while working with public assistance agencies for housing options.

Bettye Randle's tireless hard work is an invaluable resource to the community. Among her notable achievements is the homeless symposium she coordinated through the Partners for Survival Collaborative and Compton Unified School District. The 12th Annual Homeless/Foster Youth Symposium - "The New Faces of Homelessness", held at Compton El Camino College, raised awareness and discussion about the ever expanding homeless crisis in the SPA 6 area. The symposium featured an expert panel discussion, 4 workshops led by notable local leaders and educators, and a luncheon.

The Swinging for Families tournament is open to players of all skill levels and will be a 2 or 4 man scramble format. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. Shotgun Start begins at 12 p.m. The post tournament dinner and awards begins at 6 p.m. Tournament entrance fee is $125 (per player) and will include: greens fee, cart, goodie-bag, post tournament dinner and awards.
